WEEK IN REVIEW: Always Remember

 

Week In Review:

Each day USMWF extensively researches articles regarding work incidents, illnesses and diseases to share with you recognizing those we have lost.  But, also to gain attention to such losses to prevent similar incidents, illnesses and diseases from occurring. 

USMWF knows and understand that these articles represent only a few of the 14 workers lost each day due to a work related incident in the United States as not every incident is recognized by the local media.

We never forget those that went to work and never came home to their families and we hope that you remember them and their stories.

NEW YORK (AP) — A construction worker died Thursday after falling from the roof of a two-story building, city officials said, the third fatal incident involving a construction worker in just over a week.

A firefighter is dead and another is hospitalized after an off-duty colleague fired gunshots in a Los Angeles County fire station before apparently taking his own life, authorities said.

Eight steelworkers were injured after an electric arc furnace exploded Saturday evening at the Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel Plant in Pueblo, Colorado, about 100 miles north of the New Mexico border. Seven of the injured workers had to walk themselves out of the plant and one later had to drive himself to the emergency room.

A construction worker at the State Route 520 Montlake Project was killed Wednesday when he was struck in the chest by an 11,000 pound steel beam and was pinned between the pillar and a flatbed trailer that was carrying it, authorities said.

A Maryland construction worker, 55-year-old Nelson Aguilar-Salamanca, was killed Monday after being hit by a piece of rebar at a construction site in McLean, Virginia, according to the Fairfax County (Virginia) Police Department (FCPD).

Twenty-six-year-old Trenten Dille, a miner and father of two from Littleton, West Virginia, died early Wednesday morning after being crushed by the rib of a support pillar in a Marion County Coal Resources mine. Barely 24 hours later, a second death was reported at Horse Creek Eagle Mine, operated by Alpha Metallurgical Resources in southern West Virginia. According to a news release late Thursday night, Nicholas David Adkins, 43, died in what the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) website said was an “electrical haulage” accident at the Raleigh County mine, formerly owned by Massey Energy.
